This is my bit of a blog. Rambling words about rambling days. No focus and nothing ambitious. I seem to write most about local color, nature, and animals, and there is an incomplete chunk about my road trips of 2011.

Top 19 Things That Happened in 2008

The G-rated list, appropriate for general audiences. Contains no fewer than four items about physical sickness and bodily functions, two explicitly concerning feces. I considered cutting these items, but. Didn't.

  • Jan. 1 — I move house, from a room in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to a four-bedroom apartment in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. I proceed to fill the apartment with three roommates.
  • c. Feb.-July — My cousin lives with me for six-plus months.
  • Feb. 22 — I buy a new used car. I name her Marilyn Stella Maris, 'Mack' for short.
  • c. Mar. 31 — I develop shingles. I recover within a few weeks.
  • May 4 — I poop a penny. Which I accidentally ate a few days prior, in a McDonald's chicken nugget. What, you think it can't happen to you? I felt it wend its way through my intestines.
  • June 7 — Received first professional pedicure ever in my life.
  • c. July — I am arrested and imprisoned, over a very old parking ticket.
  • c. Aug. 26-Sept. 5 — I investigate poverty in the United States, urban project housing, and Brownsville, Brooklyn.
  • Sept. 26 — My wallet is stolen, after I forget it at a laundromat.
  • Oct. 3 — I am poisoned by food, for the first of no fewer than three times this year. Sudden, severe dehydration, blackouts and falls on the way to the phone, and an ambulance to the emergency room.
  • Oct. 11-19 — I photo-catalog and organize my entire wardrobe. Clearly, I am my mother's daughter. Total items, including coats, handbags, and shoes: 106.

  • Oct. 24 — My nephew is born, making me a first-time auntie.

  • Nov. 16 — I see one of my oldest childhood friends for the first time in years and meet her three kids for the first time.
