This is my bit of a blog. Rambling words about rambling days. No focus and nothing ambitious. I seem to write most about local color, nature, and animals, and there is an incomplete chunk about my road trips of 2011.

Floyd County

Beautiful, rolling countryside overall, and overall rather more deforested than previous counties. In the east, more houses, mostly mid-century, than farms and barns, though not so many houses either and not pervasively on hilltops, like in Bedford County. In the west, beautiful, rolling, more wooded farmland, with old homes and barns. Throughout the county, a very few new construction homes, but which look custom not spec.
Some concern re: tourist economy of charming town of Floyd (with what sound like a couple good restaurants) and what its effect on land development could be.
Return visit to west half of county June 30. Followed fairly much the same route as first visit, and beauty of countryside holds up. Strikingly few old homes and not many new construction either. Mostly mid-century. But sparse, can drive quite a ways without seeing a house.
