What a wonderfully mild December first. Partly sunny, fifty-some degrees. Perfect day to walk the Landsdown Trail again.
Looked at all sorts of seed pods on shrubs and grasses. And at the activated grays of sycamore tree tops against blue-cloudy sky. Fought with squirrels for right-of-way. And saw a very nice assortment of birds. Your mallard regulars. An especially large flock of Canada geese. A noisy bramble of fat little gray sparrows—so cute. Two vultures, sunning themselves high in the bare trees. A blue jay. And pairs of cardinals.
Leaves have fallen away, and rain has flattened grasses and brush. Green and most hues have been lost. But, in their place, is exposure. We see into the forest and across its floor. Well up the river. Through to distant hills. And, all around, up into sky.
This is my bit of a blog. Rambling words about rambling days. No focus and nothing ambitious. I seem to write most about local color, nature, and animals, and there is an incomplete chunk about my road trips of 2011.
