This is my bit of a blog. Rambling words about rambling days. No focus and nothing ambitious. I seem to write most about local color, nature, and animals, and there is an incomplete chunk about my road trips of 2011.

Clayton, Georgia

Walkable, four-block downtown. Almost exclusively commercial. Lumber and feed on outskirts. Hodgepodge architecturally, twentieth-century. Local beautification - street lamps and banners. Several restaurants.

Small to medium homes spread out northwest of downtown. Larger lots. Medium maintenance. No mobile homes.

Town situated quite high, just off Route 15. Small/dense concentration of commercial properties on Route 15. Ingles, Days Inn.

High, gently rolling land above valley. Not claustrophobic.

West along Routes 2/76, from Clayton to Hiawassee

Medium-narrow valley between medium-high hills. Road along one side. Attractive farms one medium-small-pasture/field-deep in valley. Regular residences.

Transition into forest. Suddenly: gorgeous, green Lake Burton. In ravine. Lined with high-end homes. Not gross/commercial/too bougie. Very pleasant.

Immediate return to forest atop high hills. Popcorn Overlook. Air very easy to breathe.

Lots more hilltop forest. Then couple farms, regular homes again, as descend into Hiawassee.
